Recycling Program

On August 20th, 2014, the Latrobe Street Mission produced our first bale of recyclable clothing items.  The importance of this recycling program for the Latrobe Street Mission and for our community cannot be overstated.  This program has the potential to help Latrobe Street Mission to not only keep our doors open, but also to expand services in much needed areas.  These recyclables go all over the world to help the poor and to be used in many different ways.  As well, these bales produce much needed income for the Latrobe Street Mission.  LSM’s disability accessible bathrooms are being built, and the community kitchen is in the permitting stage of development.  On August 18, 2014 43 people stayed in the emergency homeless shelter, and 11 people were working on building a solid foundation from addictions and other life-dominating behaviors through our Grace Project recovery program.  In this Grace Project, residents learn about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and how Biblical truths relate to their recovery. LSM also has the goal of providing affordable housing as the organization’s development continues.

What You Can Do to Help

By collecting used clothes, belts, shoes, and purses, you can make a difference in the community and in the lives of the homeless.  If your church will collect these items, Latrobe Street Mission will personally come and pick these items up.  All you need to do is collect used clothes, belts, shoes, and purses.  Youth groups, women’s ministries, life or community groups can all be involved.  This is one quick, simple, and yet highly effective way to make a real difference in the lives of many in the community.
